JOB OVERVIEW:

The Registered Midwife provides advanced clinical care within the Active Labour ward, Ante Natal Ward and Obstetric High Care Dependency Unit by supporting the functioning of the unit through the application of evidence based and best practice, education, team work and a patient and family centered model of care.



Key Responsibilities of the Role:

•Provide nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. This includes establishing a nursing care plan and goals for the Ante Natal and woman in Labour

•Act appropriately in emergency situations

•Assess, or assist the medical team with the assessment of the pregnant patient and any procedures that need to be undertaken. (artificial rupture of membranes, CTG, post Epidural care, assisted deliveries)

•Be able to detect deviations from normal and act accordingly

•Maintain a good rapport with the patient and family of the patient. Show respect and compassion

• Answer or direct family and patient questions to the correct person, keeping in mind the awareness of the diverse cultural complement in the UAE

•Administer medications as prescribed

•Continuously monitor the pregnant patient Ante Natal or during labour and appropriately act and escalate any problems that arise.

•Participate in promoting Evidence Based international acceptable standards of care and encourage a maternal and baby friendly environment in the unit

•Educate the pregnant patient and her family regarding her and the unborn babies needs when possible

• Let the mother and husband participate actively in the care planning and management during the Ante Natal stage, in labour and the initial phase post delivery

•Maintain and care for all equipment

•Participate in ongoing education
